报告人简介：

Professor Abhijit Mukherjee is the Institute Chair Professor and Dean Research and Development of Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, India. He has been a Professor of Civil Engineering of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and Director of Thapar University Patiala.His research is on three pillars of infrastructural sustainability- materials, monitoring and maintenance. He has published more than 100 peer reviewed research articles in such area. Professor Mukherjee has received the ASCE outstanding research award and he is a Fellow of National Academy of Engineering. He has been a partner of several international research projects involving international agencies such as European Union, National Science Foundation, USA, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Germany.

报告简介：

While infrastructure is a basic need for prosperity the present technology for building them is not sustainable. It uses too much energy and emits a large quantity of greenhouse gases. Nature, on the other hand, builds its structures such as coral reefs and ant hills in a very sustainable manner. Recent advances in biotechnology have the potential of emulating nature’s way of building at a scale that would sustain world’s population.

In this talk, a biocalcification process that is inspired by the nature’s way of building will be described. Its applications in building materials will be elaborated.  The performance of these materials will be discussed by means of several tests. The potential of the technology will be mentioned along with the challenges.
